Our visitors are always surprised to find such an incredible place to observe the wildlife, only 2 hours from Santa Cruz! Los Volcanes is located on the southeast border of the National Amboró Park. Combining the pristine mountains and forests, a comfortable infrastructure, and wildlife that is relatively unknown, Los Volcanes represents one of the best palces to observe biodiversity in the region of Santa Cruz. The refuge is found in a valley, which is an excellent habitat for birds, many of which are very difficult to see in other areas in Bolivia. Some of the special species you can see are the Andian Condor, the Black-Chested Eagle, Paraba Militar, Emerald Tucan, and some mammals like the anta, puma, and certain special species of monkey

Day 1.
Transportation from Santa Cruz to the Los Volanes refuge in the
morning. It is a 2 hour trip to reach the refuge. If you wish
to arrive at the destination by an alternative means, you can
walk the final stretch (4 kilometers or 2.5 miles) to the refuge,
increasing your odds of seeing interesting things and enjoying
the landscapes. It is advised for older people that would like
to walk this portion of the journey to use some sort of a walking
stick. The walk should only last an hour and a half, and is only
mildly challenging, but it is also recommended to wear suitable
shoes when walking in this country terrain. Another alternative
is to arrive at the refuge in a jeep that will be waiting for
you at the beginning of the journey. In the afternoon you will
take a walk on the trail known as “THE LOOP.” Lunch
and dinner are included.
Day 2.
We will wake up very early to eat breakfast and to begin exploring
the Amboró Park, beginning walking on the “Pure
Life” trail until the middle of the dia when the sun is
very hot and the activity of the animals dies down. This is the
perfect time to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the brooks
close to the refuge. After, we will continue exploring during
the afternoon, and before the sun sets we will keep an eye out
for nocturnal birds that become active at this time, such as
the owl. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Day 3.
Same itinerary as the day before.
Day 4.
On our last morning we will explore one last time the trails around the refuge.
After breakfast we will head towards Samaipata and visit the ruins on our way
back to Santa Cruz in the afternoon. Breakfast and lunch are included.
